TO THE ANTARCTICA/ URBAN PENGUINS SERIES - CHINESE PAINTING ON RICE PAPER

Global warming is causing Antarctica melting and the penguins lives there might become extinct at the end of this century. My work walks the line between imaginary and real. I consider myself as the director, conjuring new ways of thinking surrounding our shared experiences. In my paintings, fragments come together in an attempt to create emotional resonance.

Looking at the penguin and how It cohabitates throughout it's life can also coexist with our interactions as humans. A colony of penguins do everything together: eating, swimming, hunting and nesting. The only thing that gets in between this communication is now nature's beginning of extinction. We as humans also spend our entire lives interacting with other humans. We feel lonely when we are without them and the internet has given us a source of communication in times of distance. But when this source is no longer available, we too become disconnected. Disconnected from our species and ourselves. Like the penguin requires the (interaction) from other penguins, so do we.
